Police recovered the bodies of a housewife and her two-year-old daughter from their house at Badarpur in Mehendiganj of Barisal on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Salma Begum, 25, wife of Amjad Hossain, a day labourer and their daughter Tasrin, hailing from the area.

According to local and family sources, Salma Akter locked into an altercation with her husband Amjad Hossain on Wednesday night. Later in the morning, Salma Akhter’s body was found hanging from the ceiling of the house while the body of the child on the floor.

Locals suspected that Salma committed suicide after strangling her child to death sometime at night.

Abidur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mehendiganj police station, said the bodies were recovered from the spot after being informed on Thursday morning.

Although, no one has been arrested in this connection so far, he said adding that the police are working to unearth the main secret of the murder, he said.

The OC also said that a preparation is underway to send the bodies to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsies.
